Subject: Self-help for those with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Target audience: People who suffer from OCDs, such as ablutomania, compulsive controlling etc. as well as their relatives
Content:
About 15% of people suffer from an ODC – mostly not for their whole lives but nevertheless for many years. They compulsively clean, wash, control or collect. This guide describes the symptoms of OCD and makes practical suggestions about want can be done against it. The authors show how easily the disorder tricks its way into becoming a “member” of the household: At first it is accepted as a useful organisation helper but it soon gains the upper hand dictating the daily routine and further aspects of life.
The book contains explanations into how obsessive-compulsive disorders come about and what keeps them alive. The authors explain in clear and easy terms techniques that can be successfully implemented in behavioural therapy and that are ideally suited for use as self-help.
Review:
"The authors have turned the title of their book into a concept. They have written an easy to understand and sometimes amusing guide about obsessive-compulsive disorder, its manifestations and causes as well as treatment methods. The authors leave no questions unanswered. The book contains answers to frequently asked questions and about difficulties with therapy, as well as dealing with relapses and advice about help using medical-psychological experts."
