Subject: Explaining the depression of a parent in a manner appropriate to children
Target audience: Children aged 3 to 6, partners, parents and friends of people suffering from depression as well as those working in information centers or as pedagogues.
Content:
Often, when a parent is suffering from depression and dramatically changes his/her behaviour, small children develop a feeling of guilt. They think that they have been naughty or have done something wrong, and that is why mother or father is so unhappy.
This children’s book “Mummy’s Monster" helps the adults, whether it is parents, grandparents or other family members, explain depression to pre-school children. At the same time the children learn, on the one hand, that it is not their fault and, on the other, that this condition can be managed with a lot of patience and the help of doctors and therapy.
Erdmute von Mosch had little Rike, her mother and the depression-monster charmingly depicted in pictures using her own experiences as the daughter of a mother with depression.
This storybook is aimed at pre-school children, their parents and relatives.
Reviews:
"This book should be present in every kindergarden and information center. And it is also highly recommendable for families in order to get their `kids into balance´, according to the publisher´s motto!” Detlef Rüsch, amazon.de
"With the help of this book you can sensitively make it clear to children that they are absolutely not responsible when mummy or daddy is often unhappy or dismissive. This is why this picture book is so warmly recommended to everybody working in education or who is personally affected“ Krankendienst (a German carer magazine)
