 By Asmus Finzen
Subject: This book has become a standard work in psychiatry. It explains in simple language what schizophrenia does to a person.
Target audience: Therapists working in psychiatry as well as relatives and people suffering from mental disorders.
Content:
In this book Asmus Finzen describes the experience of schizophrenia from the point of view of those suffering from it and their families as well as the symptoms of the illness. In an easy to understand style he traces current knowledge about the conditions that lead to this illness and provides hope in that it is treatable. Actually it is very treatable once you know that schizophrenia sufferers are sensitive people, who aside from therapy also need understanding and tolerance. Some chapters deal with the chances that sufferers have to be co-organisers of their treatment and others are dedicated to the concern felt by relatives. Further chapters describe how those affected are viewed by the general public and how misunderstanding and rejection can exacerbate the illness.
